Colonel Darric M. Knight

Upon graduation from the University of Texas in 1985, Col Knight attended the Basic School and Infantry Officer’s Course, finishing in April 1987.  Joining 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, he served as rifle platoon commander and rifle company executive officer, making two Western Pacific deployments from 1987-1990.  In August 1990, then Captain Knight joined 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment as the assistant operations officer during Desert Storm/Shield.  Upon return, Col Knight transferred to 3d Reconnaissance Battalion for service as S-3A and company commander.  In 1992, Col Knight returned from Okinawa, joining Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry (West), and performed duties as company commander, battalion S-3 and battalion executive officer from 1992-1994. 

Completing Amphibious Warfare School in 1995, Col Knight was ordered to 1st Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment for duty as the battalion operations officer.  After one UDP deployment to Okinawa and promotion to Major, Col Knight was selected to form and lead Landing Force Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training, deploying to the Western Pacific to conduct bilateral amphibious exercises with a number of coalition nations.  Col Knight finished his tour in Hawaii as the regimental plans officer in 1998.  Ordered to headquarters Marine Corps, Col Knight served in the Programs and Resources Department as an action officer supporting the service component of the Joint Requirements Oversight Council and aide de camp from 1998-2001.

Upon graduation from the School of Advance Warfighting and promotion to Lieutenant Colonel in 2002, Col Knight joined the 2d Marine Division as the plans officer.  Col Knight deployed in November 2002 with the Division staff to establish Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa and served as the J5.  Upon return, Col Knight assumed command of 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, deploying in support of OIF in 04-05.  Upon change of command in June 2005, Col Knight attended top level school at the U.S. Army School of Advanced Military Studies as a fellow in the Advanced Operational Arts Studies program.  He remained another year serving as a seminar leader for the Advanced Military Studies program, a second year program for majors attending the Army Command and General Staff College.  Col Knight joined Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific serving as the director of operations and training and executive officer from 2007-2010.  From 2010-2013, he served as the assistant chief of staff G-7, I MEF, responsible for the specific training provided by SOTG and the I MEF Advisor Training Cell.

Col Knight has attended numerous service schools and has been awarded a number of decorations.
