Colonel Philip J. Zimmerman
Officer in Charge, Marine Corps Activity - Guam
Colonel Zimmerman graduated from Colorado State University
with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.
He is also a graduate of the Naval War College
and holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.
Colonel Zimmerman was commissioned in the Marine Corps through the Platoon Leaders Class program in 1987. He attended The Basic School and subsequently completed Naval Flight Officer training in 1989 at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida.
Colonel Zimmerman's aviation experience is in the EA-6B Prowler.
His operational assignments include four tours in all of the Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadrons and duty as a flight instructor with Electronic Attack Squadron-129.
Colonel Zimmerman's operational aviation experience includes two deployments to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan
; two deployments to Aviano Air Base, Italy
; and a deployment to Al Asad Air Base, Iraq
His staff assignments include tours at the Department of Aviation Manpower and Support, Headquarters U.S. Marine Corps; Branch Head, Special Activities, J-3 Plans, U.S. Central Command; Director of 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing's Aviation Training System; and as the Chief of Staff, 2nd MAW (Forward).
Colonel Zimmerman commanded Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron-4 and most recently Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point from November 2010 to August 2013. He began his current assignment as the Officer-in-Charge, Marine Corps Activity Guam in September 2013.
