Lance Cpl. Aquiles Ruiz, a special security office clerk with U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, and dozens of service members and civilian employees with MarForPac and U.S. Pacific Command gathered Jan. 14 for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Day observance, here.::r::::n::In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the equal rights movement he began in the mid 1950s, Ruiz read Proclamation 5431, signed in 1986, which declared the creation of the federal holiday, in Spanish.::r::::n::Because of Dr. King’s contribution to American society, Ruiz, a Marine of Hispanic descent, shares the same civil rights all Americans are entitled too, regardless of race. ::r::::n::
