Mr. Hashimoto was appointed as Executive Director, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific (MARFORPAC) on 15 November 2019. Prior to his appointment he held plans and policy billets within Headquarters, MARFORPAC since August 1999. MARFORPAC is the regional headquarters for all Marine Corps forces assigned to the Commander, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. This includes all of I and III Marine Expeditionary Forces in locations across the region from the southwest United States to northeast Asia and consists of approximately 86,000 Marines and Sailors.
As Executive Director he is a key strategic leader with extensive regional experience who provides executive leadership, managerial direction, and program expertise for all command functions. He is also his agency's lead for the Defense Policy Review Initiative (DPRI) and human capital management.
The DPRI is the first major reposturing of Marine Corps forces in the Asia-Pacific region since the end of World War II. The program will result in a sustainable positioning of forces that improves the Marine Corps' ability to maintain readiness, assure allies and partner nations, support the deterrence of adversaries, and respond to crises and contingencies. Elements of the DPRI include projects at Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan; the Futenma Replacement Facility and base consolidation measures in Okinawa; the establishment of a Marine Corps base and supporting training ranges in Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands; the build up of facilities to support the rotational Marine Air Ground Task Force in the Northern Territory of Australia; and the basing of additional Marine Corps units in Hawaii.
Mr. Hashimoto was born and raised in Honolulu. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Stanford University and a Master of Business Administration from UCLA before his commissioning as a Marine Corps officer through the Officer Candidate Class Ground Program in 1992.
He served on active duty as an infantry officer from 1992 to 1998 before transitioning to the Marine Corps Reserve. As a reservist he has held numerous command and senior leader billets and is a brigadier general currently assigned as the Commanding General, Force Headquarters Group, Marine Forces Reserve.
He is a graduate of the USMC Amphibious Warfare School Non-Resident, USMC Command and Staff College Distance Education, Air War College Distance Learning, and Joint Forces Staff College Advanced Joint Professional Military Education programs as well as the Capstone General and Flag Office Course.
