Sergeant Major Jorge L. Ortiz

Sergeant Major Jorge L. Ortiz is a native of Sacramento, California, enlisting in 2000 from Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA.
 
Upon completion of Marine Combat Training he then completed his Military Occupational Specialty school as a 2531, Field Radio Operator. After his initial training he reported to Battery B, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines, Kaneohe Bay, HI as a Field Radio Operator, deploying multiple times on Unit Deployment Programs.  In 2004 Sergeant Major Ortiz volunteered for Marine Security Guard duty and assigned to U.S. Embassy Bamako, Mali, U.S. Embassy Kabul, Afghanistan and U.S. Consulate Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. 
 
Sergeant Major Ortiz's earlier assignments include, 9th Communication Battalion, I MEF where he deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM as the Provisional Government Center Staff Non-Commissioned Officer-in-Charge (SNCOIC), Ramadi, Iraq, 3d Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, as the Assistant Radio Chief and deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM,  in Garmsir, Afghanistan. Additionally, he served as the SNCOIC of Recruiting Sub-Station Mansfield, TX, Recruiting Station Fort Worth, 8th Marine Corps District. After his tour on Recruiting, Sergeant Major Ortiz was assigned to Communications Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, as the Multi-Channel Radio platoon SNCOIC.  
 
His senior enlisted leadership assignments include: First Sergeant at Charlie Company, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA. During which he deployed with the Maritime Raid Force, on the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (WESTPAC 16-1), Battalion Sergeant Major, to Security Battalion, Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA, Squadron Sergeant Major, to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 312, MAG-31, 2d MAW, Beaufort, S.C., during his tour he deployed into the INDOPACOM AOR for the units Dynamic Force Employment mission. Squadron Sergeant Major, Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501, MAG-31, 2d MAW.  Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 464, MAG-29, 2d MAW on Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C. Sergeant Major Ortiz was transfered to his current assignment, Headquarters & Service Battalion, U.S. Marine Forces Pacific, Camp Smith, HI. 
    
Sergeant Major Ortiz’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (with two Gold Stars), Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with two Gold Stars) and the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with two Gold Stars).
 
Sergeant Major Ortiz holds an Associates degree in General Studies, from American Military University.
