Sergeant Major William d. Harrington
Sergeant Major Harrington attended boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA in September 1998 as a Private First Class. Upon completion of Recruit Training and Marine Combat Training he was assigned to Marine Corps Communication Electronic School (MCCES) in 29 Palms, CA where he was promoted to Lance Corporal and received MOS 2811.
In August of 1999, he was assigned to MCB Okinawa Japan as a 2811. Upon Completion of his tour in Okinawa, he was assigned to 9th Communication Battalion Camp Pendleton, CA in August of 2000. While assigned to 9th Comm Bn he filled the billets of Training NCO and Assistant Shop Chief and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal. In June 2001 he was attached to the 13th MEU Joint Task Force Enabler team and deployed in support of OEF and operation Anaconda. During this deployment he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant. After the nine month deployment he returned to 9th Communication Battalion.
In November of 2002 SgtMaj Harrington was assigned to 25th Marine Regiment in Worcester, MA as a 2841. While assigned to 25th Marines he filled the billets of Communication Chief, Color Sergeant, Maintenance Chief, Corporal Course Instructor, and was the Regiment Security Team Leader. In May of 2005 he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and selected for a Military Transition Team as a communication advisor attached to 3d Battalion, 1st Brigade, 1st Division Iraqi Intervention Force in support of OIF. After a one year tour he returned to 25th Marine Regiment.
In September of 2006 he was assigned to MCCES as a student in the Advanced Electronic Course. Upon graduating in February of 2007 he was assigned as an instructor for the Advanced Electronic Course MCCES 29 Palms, CA. He was then assigned to VMU-3 29 Palms, CA in August of 2009 as the Squadron Communication Maintenance Chief. While assigned to VMU-3 he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and filled the billets of maintenance chief, communication chief and Squadron Gunnery Sergeant. In October of 2009 SgtMaj Harrington deployed to Afghanistan with VMU-3 as the Assistant SNCOIC, Maintenance Chief, and Communication Chief. After the seven month deployment he returned to 29 Palms and was selected by the HRST for recruiting duty.
In June 2011 he attended Basic Recruiters School at MCRD San Diego, CA. Upon graduation in August of 2011 he was assigned to 1st Marine Corps District Garden City, NY. During his time on Recruiting Duty he served as a Canvassing Recruiter and Recruiting Sub-Station SNCOIC. In January of 2014, he was promoted to 1SgtSgt and assumed the duties as Command 1stSgt, Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific Coronado, CA.
In October 2017 he was assigned to 3D Supply Battalion and assumed duties as the Ammo Company 1stSgt. He was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major in November 2017 and assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma.
In May 2019 SgtMaj Harrington was assigned to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, Camp Hansen, Okinawa Japan. On December 1st 2020 SgtMaj Harrington reported for duty as the Marine Rotational Force Darwin (MRF-D) SgtMaj. SgtMaj Harrington's personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, and the Combat Action Ribbon. He is married to Mrs. Deborah M. Harrington and has three children.
