During an impromptu handshake, U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Dwayne Theissen, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific commanding general, and Philippine Navy Rear Adm. Victor Emmanuel C. Martir, Philippine Armed Forces exercise director, playfully grab each other by the back of the neck after rolling up the Exercise Balikatan flag to mark the end of the event at the closing ceremony of Balikatan 2012, April 27, at Camp Aguinaldo, Philippines. Exercise Balikatan is an annual training event aimed at improving combined planning, combat readiness, humanitarian assistance and interoperability between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and U.S. The word "balikatan" in Filipino means "shoulder-to-shoulder."
