ANTRA LINA TRAINING AREA, Indonesia-An Indonesian child kicks a ball into the goal past Capt. Rudy Cazares, company commander with Landing Force Company. Marines with the company played a game of soccer with the children to build relationships with the surrounding community during a training pause. The Marines and Sailors, primarily from 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, are participating in Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2011 through June. CARAT is an annual bilateral exercise held between the U.S. and Southeast Asian nations with the goals of enhancing regional cooperation, promoting mutual trust and understanding and increasing operational readiness throughout the participating nations. While in Indonesia, the service members from both nations trained in martial arts, military operations in urban terrain, jungle survival, combat marksmanship, sniper techniques and combat lifesaving skills.
