A landscape photo of Nu’upia Fishpond highlighting the invasive plant species pickleweed (Batis maritima) before the first community work day of Paepae o He’eia, a private non-profit organization dedicated to caring for He’eia Fishpond, following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for co-stewardship of Nu’upia Fishpond Wildlife Management Area (WMA), Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Oct. 7, 2023. The work day was part of an ongoing effort to preserve the Nu’upia Fishpond WMA, a protected area of MCBH, consisting of shorelines/beaches, fishponds, wetlands, and vegetated areas that provide a habitat for endangered native species.
