Philippine Soldiers prepare rice for a Boodle Fight at a disaster preparedness symposium during Balikatan 2017 in Ormoc City, Leyte, May 2, 2017. A Boodle Fight is a communal meal and Philippine military tradition to symbolize unity and camaraderie. The Armed Forces of the Philippines along with representatives from Japan Self-Defense Force, Australian Defence Force, and U.S. military worked with a local barangay to improve health conditions and disaster preparedness. Balikatan is an annual U.S.-Philippine bilateral military exercise focused on a variety of missions, including humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, counterterrorism, and other combined military operations.
