U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Matthew A. Long, right, a motor transport mechanic with Motor Transport Company, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, was recognized by Lt. Gen. Lawrence D. Nicholson, the commanding general for III MEF, for winning a Marine Corps wide competition for logistical innovation on Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan, October 20, 2016. Long designed a self-aiding attachment to be placed between a Marine and the small arms protective insert plates. Long’s idea for the device began after brainstorming ways to save Marines’ lives with hopes to minimize the time between injury and treatment. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. William Hester)
