Sgt. James Monroe removes rust from a winch cable at Pohakuloa Training Area, Hawaii, July 17, 2016. Monroe is participating in Rim of the Pacific 2016, a multinational exercise, from June 29 to Aug. 8 in and around the Hawaiian Islands. During RIMPAC, motor transportation mechanics are responsible for ensuring the safety and operability of Marine Wing Support Squadron 171’s ground vehicles, in order to support integrated air-ground events during the exercise. Monroe, a native of Lyons, Georgia, is the motor transportation quality control chief for MWSS-171, Marine Aircraft Group 12, which supports III Marine Expeditionary Force.
