U.S. Marines come ashore, via Assault Amphibious Vehicles and U.S. Navy Landing Craft Air Cushion hovercraft, at Kawaihae Pier, Hawaii, July 15, 2016. The Marines are participating in Rim of the Pacific 2016, a multinational military exercise, from June 29 to Aug. 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands. Marines are knick-named “Soldiers of the Sea” because they are specially trained to integrate with the Navy to conduct expeditionary, amphibious operations, which RIMPAC 16 simulates.
