Jim Nabors (right), honorary Marine sergeant who played Gomer Pyle in a television show laughs while his biography is read during a conference room dedication ceremony at Camp H. M. Smith, Hawaii, June 9, 2015. Nabors laughed when his biography stated he was given the rank of private for 37 years before being awarded honorary lance corporal. The ceremony was held to dedicate three conference rooms to be named after Retired Sgt. Maj. Mike D. Mervosh, former Fleet Marine Forces Pacific sergeant major and veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam; Retired Lt. Gen. Henry Stackpole III, former MARFORPAC commander; and Nabors.
