Left to right: CMDR David Luck, commanding officer HMAS Coonawarra, Royal Australian Navy, Australian Defence Force; CMDR John Navin, RAN, ADF; BRIG Michael Ryan, commander of 1st Brigade, Australian Army, ADF; CMDR Wes Perrett, commanding officer No.13 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force Base Darwin, RAAF, ADF. The distinguished guests saluted during the sound of “Last Post” during the memorial service commemorating the 73rd Anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea May 8 at the USS Peary Gun Memorial, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. The Battle of the Coral Sea was a series of naval engagements, between the U.S. and Australia against Japan, which occurred May 4 to May 8, 1942 on the northeast coast of Australia. Events in the community allow Marines to learn about the history the U.S. and Australia share and to further the long-standing relationship between the two nations.
