Sgt. Kairo Ortez (right), the platoon sergeant for 2nd Platoon, Landing Force Company, and HM3 Marcus Green, corpsman, LF Company, patrol through the jungles of Eram Sisik June 11. The Marines and sailors learned tactics for jungle operations from their Malaysian counterparts from 8th Royal Ranger Regiment, Malaysian Army. The training is part of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2011. CARAT is an annual series of bilateral exercises held between the U.S. and Southeast Asian nations with the goals of enhancing regional cooperation, promoting mutual trust and understanding, and increasing operational readiness throughout the participating nations. While in Malaysia, U.S. and Malaysian service members trained together on jungle, urban and amphibious operations.
