Marines with Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct an embassy reinforcement and noncombatant evacuation exercise at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Feb. 5, 2020. Marines reinforced a simulated embassy, providing riot control and assisting with Department of State and noncombatant evacuation. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region. U.S. Marines 1st Lt. Wyatt McAlpine, a platoon commander, and Sgt. Alexander Aberle, a platoon sergeant, both with Company A, 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, explain the significant capability that Company A can provide through training to combine crowd control techniques with non-lethal weapons during non-lethal weapons training at Landing Zone Wren, Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Jan. 15, 2019. During the three-day training event, military policemen further crowd-control training with additional equipment and combine those techniques with non-lethal weapons including batons, Mossberg 500 shotguns, M32 Multiple Grenade Launchers, M203 grenade launchers, and Sting Ball Grenades. U.S. Marines instruct Royal Cambodian Sailors on non-lethal weapons and tactics at Ream Naval Base, Sihanoukville, Cambodia, Nov. 1, 2016. This training took place as part of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 16. CARAT 2016 is a nine-country, bilateral exercise series between the United States and Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, and Timor-Leste. This phase of CARAT focuses on partnerships between the forces of the US and Cambodia, and Brunei. As the premier naval engagement in South and Southeast Asia, CARAT provides a regional venue to address shared maritime security priorities, enhance interoperability among participation forces, and develop key relationships that will serve partner nations for many years to come. Khaan Quest 2016: Service Members From The Malaysian Army Execute The Riot Control Training Lane_Package
Service members from the Malaysian Army execute the riot control training lane during Khaan Quest 2016 at Five Hills Training Area, Mongolia, June 1, 2016. This lane tests participants’ reactions to various scenarios including application of rules of engagement; protection of civilians; and searching tactics and procedures. Riot control is one of eleven training lanes conducted during the exercise that exposes service members to different scenarios they may face during UN Peacekeeping Operations. Malaysian Army Lieutenant Commander Azren, assigned to Joint Force Headquarters, Malaysia, and Mongolian Armed Forces Captain B. Bayasgalan, assigned to unit 337, provide remarks on the training being conducted. Khaan Quest is an annual, multinational peacekeeping operations exercise hosted by the Mongolian Armed Forces, co-sponsored by U.S. Pacific Command, and supported by U.S. Army Pacific and U.S Marine Corps Forces, Pacific. Khaan Quest, in its 14th iteration, is the capstone exercise for this year’s Global Peace Operations Initiative program and focuses on training activities to enhance international interoperability, develop peacekeeping capabilities, build mil-to-mil relationships, and enhance military readiness.
