MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Marines teach midshipmen the proper techniques to execute the obstacle course and the basics of pugil sticks. The obstacle course and pugil stick fights are part of the Career Orientation and Training of Midshipmen program for future Navy and Marine Corps officers. The Career Orientation and Training of Midshipmen take current college students and futures officers to Camp Pendleton to show them how the Marine Corps operates and also its capabilities. The main objective is to teach midshipmen what it takes to be an officers in the Navy or Marine Corps.

Midshipmen learn hand and arm signals, squad formations, and M-9 service pistol marksmanship as part of the Core Training of Midshipmen program, also known as CORTRAMID, at Camp Pendleton, May 31, 2016. The training provides a small taste of the experience, skills and knowledge that it takes to be a Marine or Naval officer.

Marines with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, trained Midshipmen on military operations in urban terrain at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., July 22-23.
