U.S., Australia, and New Zealand service members and civilians participate in the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps Day Ceremony at the National Cemetary of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii, April 25, 2025. ANZAC Day commemorates the sacrifices made by all Australian and New Zealander service members who have served in all conflicts and peacekeeping missions around the world. This date marks the 110th anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australia and New Zealand during World War I on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey. Commemorating the Fallen: U.S. Marines Play Memorial Rugby Match in Darwin
On Sept. 11, 2017 U.S. Marines with Marine Rotational Force Darwin played a rugby match against the Darwin Stray Cats Rugby Club to honor and remember the lives lost during the terrorist attacks on 9/11. The match has become an annual event to commemorate the friendships made during a rugby match that took place between U.S. Marine and sailors with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and the Stray Cats on September 11, 2001.
