Marines competed in 3rd Marine Division's annual squad competition among rifle squads and crew-served weapons units on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan. The competition was held from Nov. 28 - Dec. 2, 2016, in order to evaluate standards-based infantry training and recognize proficiency in infantry and crew-served weapons skills. 12 different squads representing the major subordinate elements within 3rd Marine Division competed, as well as guests from 2nd Marine Division. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 1/4 and CLB-11 shoot medium and heavy machine guns during the 11th MEU's Combined Arms Exercise 2016. MEUCAX is an opportunity for the logistics element and ground combat element to conduct offensive and defensive mission sets in an austere environment in preparation for their upcoming deployment.

HM2 Ryan Handyduncanson and LCDR Jeffrey Hoyle were presented with the Dean Christensen and the LT. J. G. Osborne Memorial Awards for their hard work and dedication during deployment. The awards are presented annually by the Marine Corps association to recognize a dental officer and a hospital corpsman serving with Marines.
