U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Scott Sasser, a media operations officer with I Marine Expeditionary Force, was promoted aboard the USS Iowa during Los Angeles Fleet Week, Sept. 1, 2018. The residents of San Pedro, Calif. were invited to view the promotion as Sasser was promoted from a company-grade officer to a field grade officer. Commissioned officer ranks are subdivided into generals, field-grade, and company-grade officers.
