U.S. Marine Corps Sgt.Maj. Dennis M. Bradley, 3rd Marine Division sergeant major, talks about the caliber of Marines that have served in 3rd Marine Division. In observance of Vietnam Veterans Day he speaks about Gen. Lewis Walt, a former commander of 3rd Marine Division. Gen. Walt received a Silver Star while serving with the First Raider Battalion in Tulagi, was awarded two Navy Crosses during WWII, commanded III Marine Amphibious Force and served as the first four star General as Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Military service members, former prisoners of war, families and veterans gather during a ceremony for National POW/MIA Recognition Day at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii, Sept. 21, 2018. National POW/MIA Recognition Day, first established in 1979 through a proclamation from President Jimmy Carter, is an observance to honor and recognize the sacrifices of those Americans who have been prisoners of war and to remind the nation of those who are still missing in action. Giving After Grief
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. – Maxine Russell has dedicated nearly 30 years to sending care packages to service members deployed around the world. What started as a gesture of support for troops turned into building a legacy for her deceased son. Since then, Maxine has sent more than 7,200 care packages, adopted military families for the holidays, and volunteers her time as a grief counselor to veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress, all in the name of her son Darren “White Rabbit” Russell. William Stacey, a squad leader who served with Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device for valor during a ceremony here Feb. 15.
