U.S. Army Capt. Brett Harris, team leader, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), speaks on the 24-5LA recovery mission conducted in Lao Democratic People’s Republic from early July to late-August in 2024. The team deployed with 16 members in hopes of recovering the remains of missing service members from past conflicts. Since 1985, the United States and Lao governments have worked closely together to find and recover unaccounted-for American service members. JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii -- U.S. Navy Petty Officer Robert Dotter, an independent duty corpsmen, was recently attached to a Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) recovery team in Boualapha District, Khammouan province, Laos. Dotter, currently stationed at Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago, Illinois was selected to be the primary medic for the DPAA team providing medical support to team members, and local nationals hired to assist the team on an excavation site in search of an unaccounted for service member from the Vietnam War.
