The Marines and Sailors of I Marine Expeditionary Force participated in Los Angeles Fleet Week. Aug. 27 - Sept. 3. LAFW provided an opportunity for the Marine Corps and Navy to demonstrate the quality of personnel to the citizens of Los Angeles and surrounding areas. U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Scott Sasser, a media operations officer with I Marine Expeditionary Force, was promoted aboard the USS Iowa during Los Angeles Fleet Week, Sept. 1, 2018. The residents of San Pedro, Calif. were invited to view the promotion as Sasser was promoted from a company-grade officer to a field grade officer. Commissioned officer ranks are subdivided into generals, field-grade, and company-grade officers.
