13th MEU End of Deployment Video
U.S. Marines and Sailors with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) returned from their successful, eight-month deployment to the Indo-Pacific, Middle East, Mediterranean and Horn of Africa regions, February 28, 2019. Throughout deployment, the Navy’s Essex Amphibious Ready Group and 13th MEU team participated in a variety of exercises with partners throughout the Indo-Pacific, Middle East, Mediterranean and Horn of Africa regions, which strengthened partnerships and increased combat readiness, amphibious and crisis-response capabilities and interoperability between U.S. and partner nation forces. Simultaneous, the Navy/Marine Corps force supported Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Freedom Sentinel. In addition, the end of this deployment is uniquely significant, as it was the inaugural combat deployment of the Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II. (U. S. Marine Corps video by Francisco J. Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2018
U.S. Marines with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct training and operations with the Malaysian Armed Forces during Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2018, August 15 - 20, 2018. CARAT Malaysia, in its 24th iteration, is designed to enhance information sharing and cooperation, build mutual warfighting capability and support long-term regional cooperation enabling both partner armed forces to operate effectively together as a unified maritime force. “Marine Corps F-35Bs launching from the deck of USS Essex and striking targets ashore as part of routine training simply makes us a more lethal force,” said Rear Adm. Brad Cooper, commander, Amphibious Force, U.S. 7th Fleet. The Essex Amphibious Ready Group and 13th MEU is the first continental United States Navy/Marine Corps team to deploy with the F-35B.(U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. Francisco J. Diaz Jr.)

Sustainment Training Exercise Hawaii
OAHU - U.S. Marines with Bravo Company, Battalion Landing Team 3/1, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), conduct Sustainment Training Exercise, July 20, 2018, Hawaii. This training allowed Marines and Sailors to sustain skills developed during a comprehensive six-month pre deployment training cycle, and included planning and executing ship-to-shore operations, company-sized helicopter and amphibious raids, combat marksmanship and convoy operations. The Essex Amphibious Ready Group/MEU team is a strong, flexible, responsive and consistent force capable of maneuver warfare across all domains; it is equipped and scalable to respond to any crisis from humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to contingency operations.
