Fuji Viper is a regularly scheduled training evolution that allows infantry units to maintain their lethality and proficiency in infantry and combined arms tactics. U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Colby Melendez, an infantry motormen with 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, shares his story while attending Los Angeles Fleet Week from Aug. 31 - Sept. 3, 2018. Melendez is a Los Angeles native and participates in the fleet week by sharing his experiences in the Marines Corps and what it feels like to give back to the community. Los Angeles Fleet Week provides an opportunity for the Marine Corps and Navy to demonstrate the quality of personnel to the citizens of Los Angeles and surrounding areas. Two A-10s and two FA-50s took off at Clark Air Base to practice visual and non-visual deconfliction tactics while effectively employing aircraft combat operations systems.
