KATHMANDU, Nepal -- Four Marine Corps MV-22
tilt-rotor aircraft and two Marine Corps KC-130 aircraft arrived at the
Tribhuvan International Airport here at approximately 6:00 p.m. Sunday to
supplement local government and international response efforts. The MV-22
Ospreys will help transport humanitarian assistance personnel and disaster
relief items to difficult-to-access affected areas, including remote villages
in mountainous regions and areas made inaccessible by landslides and debris
since the April 25 earthquake. Ospreys provide an unmatched range of
capabilities to deliver aid twice as quickly and five times further than
other helicopters, enhancing the
operational reach of relief efforts. These aircraft follow the earlier arrival
of a Marine Corps UH-1Y Huey helicopter. Two additional UH-1Y helicopters are scheduled to
arrive in the following days.
