Exercise Cobra Gold to begin with Opening Ceremony

Exercise Cobra Gold 2013, the largest multinational exercise in the Asia-Pacific region, is scheduled to begin with an opening ceremony Feb. 11.

The opening ceremony will take place at Le Meridien Hotel, Chiang Mai province starting at 10:30 a.m. Accredited media personnel will need to meet at the hotel lobby by 10 a.m.

The ceremony will be presided over by the Deputy Chief of Defense Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Adm. Yuttana Phagpolngam and U.S. Ambassador to Thailand Kristie A. Kenney.

CG 13 is the 32nd iteration in a series of recurring multinational and multiservice exercises hosted annually by the Kingdom of Thailand and developed by the Royal Thai and U.S. militaries to advance regional security by exercising a robust multinational force from nations sharing common goals and security commitments in the Asia-Pacific region.

The exercise will consist of a staff exercise, various senior leader engagements, field training exercises, and humanitarian and civic assistance projects. Approximately 13,000 participants will come from the seven full participating nations and many observing nations. Full participating nations include the Kingdom of Thailand, the United States, Singapore, Japan, Republic of Korea, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Friday, Feb. 15: Small Boat Raid in Chonburi province. *** Time Change*** Media will need to meet at the Hat Yao gate by 10:15 a.m.

Saturday, Feb. 16: Helicopter Raid in Chonburi province. *** Time Change *** Media will need to meet at the Hat Yao gate by 8 a.m.

Sunday, Feb. 17: Multilateral Non-Combatant Evacuation Operation / Transportation of Japanese Nationals Overseas at the Pattaya Stadium parking lot in Chonburi province at 10 a.m.

Monday, Feb. 18: Jungle Warfare Training at the Recon Camp, Chonburi province at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19: Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear training at Sameasan,
Chonburi province at 10 a.m.

Thursday, Feb. 21: (The following events will take place very close together and in the order below)
- Humanitarian and Civil Assistance dedication ceremony in Makhamsoong, Muang District, Phitsanulok at 8 a.m.
- Combined Arms Live Fire Exercise in Ban Dan Lan Hoi, Sukhothai province at 9:30 a.m.
- Closing Ceremony in Ban Dan Lan Hoi, Sukhothai province at 10:30 a.m.
