Marines, sailors and civilians gathered to honor the memory of Sgt. Ismael “Izzy” Rentas Jr. at the Pollock Theater here March 8.

Rentas, 24, died in a motorcycle accident Feb. 27.

During the solemn ceremony, Marines who knew him spoke of the many memories they have of Rentas. Most of those who knew him agreed that his laugh is one thing they’ll never forget.

“He loved life and he loved laughing,” said Lance Cpl. Kristina Chapman, MarForPac administrative clerk. “He was that person who would laugh at your jokes even if they weren’t funny. He will be truly missed.”

Rentas served in the Marine Corps for more than six years and is survived by his wife, Priscilla.
