Headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii, the commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific (MARFORPAC), commands approximately two-thirds of the U.S. Marine Corp`s combat forces. MARFORPAC is tasked by U.S. Indo-Pacific Command to provide combat-ready forces, as required, ready to ensure peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, the largest geographic combatant command within the Department of Defense.
MARFORPAC was established in 1944 by Lt. Gen. Holland M. Smith as Fleet Marine Forces, Pacific. The commander, MARFORPAC commands all Marine Corps forces operating within the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, the largest geographic combatant command in the Department of Defense, with an area of responsibility from the California coast to the western border of India. Throughout the Indo-Pacific, MARFORPAC carries out and accomplishes all assigned operational missions, provides combat-ready forces when required, builds upon long-standing partnerships, and assures our allies and partners of MARFORPAC`s readiness, capability, and commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific for all.
