California native Master Sergeant Pauline Franklin, Senior Enlisted Advisor with Marine Corps Activity Guam, assists surviving family members at the mouth of Fena Cave on the Guam Naval Ordnance Annex during a memorial event July 19 in Santa Rita, Guam. Marines with Marine Corps Activity Guam and Sailors with the USS Frank Cable assisted survivors, family members and residents during the visit to the cave, where local Chamorros were massacred by Japanese fighters during World War II. The visit was part of this year’s series of Liberation memorials honoring lives lost during the invasion and occupation of Guam by the Japanese and the liberation of the island by Navy and Marine forces. This year marks the 69th Liberation celebration. (Official U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. John Raufmann)
