Bat Cainap, a local ranch hand, fills a trough with water for the cattle during his rounds April 12. The beef industry is important to the island, both as a food source and as a way to contribute to the local economy. The Tinian Cattlemen's Association raised concerns and even provided suggestions for solutions during recent scoping meetings regarding proposed military training areas on Tinian and Saipan, as cattle owners on the island currently use government-leased land for grazing areas.
