Thiessen on being awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for his accomplishments as the commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific after a change-of-command ceremony aboard Marine Corps Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, here, Aug. 2. Thiessen relinquished command to Lt. Gen. Terry G. Robling, and then retired to conclude his 38-year career.
