Thoma (right), Headquarters and Service Battalion commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, presents Ernest Golden, vice chairman of the African American Diversity Cultural Center of Hawaii, with a gift for serving as the guest speaker for MarForPac and U.S. Pacific Command’s Martin Luther King, Jr., Day observance Jan. 14 here.::r::::n::During the event, Golden shared what is was like growing up as a young black man in America when segregation was the law of the land, witnessing King’s civil rights movement and the positive change it made for every American, black, white or otherwise.
