ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Three 4th Air Force units won Air Force Reserve Command’s airlift control flight awards for 2005.
The 452nd ALCF from March Air Reserve Base, Calif., claimed the top unit award.
Capt. Robert Acosta and Master Sgt. Gerardo Zuniga of the 433rd ALCF, Lackland AFB, Texas, were named the top officer and senior NCO, respectively.
Tech. Sgt. Dennis Thomas of the 445th ALCF, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, took the junior NCO category.
The award winners were announced March 10.
Reserve ALCFs manage, coordinate and control air mobility equipment and people. These flights are part of the Air Mobility Command’s global command and control structure. They provide a capability for operating at locations where there is limited support and are self-sufficient to be able to sustain operations under bare-base conditions.
When deployed, Reserve ALCFs are called tanker airlift control elements. A TALCE consists of a cadre of ALCF operations and communications people complemented by other mission-support specialists from aerial port, maintenance, weather and security. TALCEs provide continuing on-site management of airfield operations. (AFRC News Service)
