SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- A ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday at Bldg. 1530 marked the completion of the renovations of Scott Clinic.
The ceremony was presided over by Col. Gary Goldstone, 375th Air Mobility Wing commander and Col. Jill Sterling, 375th Medical Group Commander.
"This project, while a long time in the works, is an example of excellent work," said Colonel Goldstone. "What's being delivered here is first rate, state of the art medical care, allowing us to enable combat power not only here but abroad."
The $45 million project started in October of 2007 and took approximately 32 months to complete.
"We renovated 126,000 square feet of space which was roughly 51 percent of the building," said Col. Mario DeSanctis, 375th MDG deputy group commander. "The clinic was built in the 1950s. While well maintained, it was in need of some upgrades to its life safety systems, infrastructure and clinical space."
"The life safety systems are essentially the HVAC, electrical and fire systems. These are essential to support of the state of the art medical equipment used at the clinic," added the colonel.
Positive comments of the remodeling have been plentiful, not just from patients but from the staff of the clinic, according to Colonel DeSanctis.
"The whole concept of the renovation was to optimize patient flow, improve access to care, co-locate clinics to streamline services and move all functions in-house. We have accomplished that and what we have now is a more modern, brighter and receptive place for patients to come and receive medical care, not only have patients been pleased but the staff's morale has increased significantly," he said.
In addition to the renovations, Colonel Sterling unveiled the new MDG website.
"I'm very proud to also show you the medical group's new website, which will function as a communication tool to help our patients with questions that may arise about their new medical home for healthcare," said Colonel Sterling.
