U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific Commander, Lt. Gen. John A. Toolan, Jr., receives a salute from a Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron crew member prior to boarding a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter, on Marine Corps Base Hawaii, prior to departing for Pohakuloa Training Area on the Island of Hawaii, Jan. 10. Toolan visited Marines from the 3rd Marine Regiment currently conducting training on PTA as part of Exercise Lava Viper. The Hawaiian Islands allow Marines the ability to conduct training such as, amphibious operations, desert-like warfare tactics, artillery live-fire training and military operations on urban terrain (MOUT). This training is essential to tenant commands readiness, in combat and humanitarian scenarios.
