Cobra Gold 2013 – Daily Update
February 15, 2013
CHIANG MAI PROVINCE, Kingdom of Thailand -- Military members from the Kingdom of Thailand, the U.S., Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia celebrated the completion of the first of five engineering civic assistance projects with a dedication ceremony at the Ban Piang Elementary School in Chiang Mai province, Kingdom of Thailand, Feb. 18.

The three classroom multipurpose facility at Ban Piang Elementary School was constructed during Cobra Gold 2013, demonstrating the resolve of partner nations to build relationships, learn from each other, and work toward common goals.

“Not only the U.S. and the Kingdom of Thailand, but certainly our other partner nations helped contribute to this building,” said U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Raquel C. Bono, command surgeon, U.S. Pacific Command. “This symbolizes our commitment to our communities.”

Humanitarian and civic assistance projects conducted during CG 13 are designed to improve the quality of life and local infrastructure for the Thai people and enhance multinational relationships and interoperability.

Enhancing readiness and interoperability elsewhere in Thailand today, multinational forces continued field training exercises, cooperative health engagement, combat lifesaver training and some even participated in morale-building sports competitions.

In its 32nd iteration, CG 13 is designed to advance regional security and ensure effective response to regional crises by exercising a robust multinational force from nations sharing common goals and security commitments in the Asia-Pacific region.
