The U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific Marauders pulled off a 13-6 win against the U.S. Pacific Special Operations Command in an intramural football game at Bordelon field, Dec. 4.

SOCPAC missed two easy scoring opportunities, after its receivers dropped two passes in the end zone from quarterback Al Best.

The Marauders struggled with their passing game early in the game, but Douglas Dixon managed to connect with Aaron Ellis on two consecutive plays for a touchdown and a two-point conversion in the first half.

After they completed the two-point conversion the score was 8-0.

Best connected with Corey Dodd for the six points they did get early in the second half.

On another SOCPAC drive in the second half, Best lofted up a pass for grabs. Jeff Boyer,

Marauders corner, snagged it from the air and ran it back 50 yards for a touchdown in the second half. The score remained 13-6 after a failed extra-point attempt.

The clock ran out leaving the Marauders undefeated with a 2-0 record.

“I felt like we struggled a lot with our passing game. But, we worked out a few plays, and Boyer came through with his interception,” said Dixon, the Marauders coach and quarterback. “We have some things to work on in practice, but I think we’ll have a winning season.”

SOCPAC’s loss left gave them a 0-2 record.

“We had a rough game. But, if we work on our fundamentals the next game will go a lot better.

Those dropped passes and turnovers killed us,” said Best. “We’ll be back.”

All future games are scheduled to be held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Bordelon Field.
