Grateful Nation Award nominations now being accepted

Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs is now accepting nominations for its Grateful Nation Award, which will be presented Oct. 15.

According to MARADMIN 475/07, the Grateful Nation Award recognizes the significant contribution of enlisted men and women in the five armed services.

All enlisted service members who meet the requirements are eligible regardless of race, gender or religion. Commanders and supervisors are encouraged to nominate deserving Marines who:

•Distinguished themselves with exceptionally superior service since the declaration of the War on Terrorism.

•Exemplified the Marine Corps’ core values of honor, courage, and commitment to duty.

•Displayed a keen sense of ethical conduct and exhibit a high degree of personal integrity.

•Are held in the highest esteem by seniors, peers, and juniors.

Nomination packages must include:

•A black and white or color, high resolution digital head and shoulder photo in the service"A" uniform.

•A typed, single-spaced narrative (not to exceed two pages) describing the nominee's accomplishments over the past year that support the award criteria.

•A typed, single spaced citation (not to exceed 16 lines) in 12 pitch font, with one inch left and right margins, summarizing the nominee's accomplishments.

•A typed, single-spaced biography of the nominee, not to exceed one page, and a letter of recommendation from the nominee's commanding officer or supervisor.

A cover sheet should include the following for both nominee and the person preparing the nomination: name, position, grade, organization, mailing address, email address, work phone and fax numbers. Electronic package submissions for Marines must be sent to Capt. Michael Famularo, project liaison officer, Equal Opportunity Diversity Management Branch at michael.famularo@usmc.mil by Sept. 14.

The Commandant of the Marine Corps will conduct a special emphasis awards board to select the honoree. The award recipient will be announced via a MARADMIN. The award presentation will be held at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel in Arlington, Va.

Travel and per diem for the Marine award recipient and one family member will be provided.
