Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff visits Camp H.M. Smith

Gen. Peter Pace, the 16th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, visited the Marines, Sailors, soldiers and airmen here, Aug. 17.

“I wanted one last chance to see the troops and say thank you before I retire in the coming weeks,” said Gen. Pace. “You truly make me proud, and have done an excellent job.”

Gen. Pace, who was sworn in as the CJCS September 2005, is the first Marine to hold both the titles of vice chairman and chairman in the history of the prestigious position.

The Teaneck, New Jersey native has a Marine Corps career spanning almost four decades, serving as a platoon leader in the Vietnam War in 1968, to his current position as the senior military advisor to the President of the United States.
