U.S. MARINE CORPS BASE KANEOHE BAY, Hawaii -- The Camp Smith Raiders defeated Marine Aircraft Group 24 Bandits 8-0 during a 2008 Intramural Football League game at Pop Warner field here Nov. 19.

In the first quarter, Bandits center slid the ball on the ground in his own end zone, giving the Raiders a safety.

At halftime, with the score at 2-0, Freddie Williams, Raiders wide receiver, gave his team words of inspiration.

“Let’s run every play like it’s our last,” Williams said. “Let’s get it back, Raiders.”

The Bandits put up a fight in the third quarter, but the Raiders came together, advancing towards the end zone.

Finally, quarterback Cal Lopes scored the first touchdown of the game, running a one-yard quarterback sneak.

The Raiders failed a two-point conversion attempt.

In the final quarter, the Bandits made several attempts to score up to the last second, making long passes, but the Raiders defense wouldn’t budge.

“Defense did a great job and we all worked together to make it happen” said Lopes. “Hopefully we can keep it up.”

Though the Raiders managed to block all the Bandits’ attempts to change the scoreboard, they gave the Raiders a run for their money.

“It was a tough game,” said LaVonne Watkins, Raiders defensive lineman. “But, a win is a win and we’re going to take the championship.”

“They played one heck of a defensive game,” said Terry Choi, Bandits head coach. “If they continue to play the way they played today, they’ll win the championship for sure.”

The Raiders will play the Combat Logistics Battalion 3 Warriors for the championship at Pop Warner field Nov. 25 at 6 p.m.
