MARINE CORPS BASE, CAMP H.M. SMITH, Hawaii --  The Honolulu Council Navy League golf tournament raised $6,000 and collected more than 320 toys for donation to the Toys for Tots drive, Nov. 30.

Navy League staff came to present the check to Lt. Gen. John F. Goodman, commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific on behalf of Toys for Tots, Dec. 14.

The league gave the toys to volunteers from 4th Force Reconnaissance Company, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, who helped with the collection.

“It’s part and parcel to our mission that we promote education and recognition of our sea services in the general public,” said Jack Flanagan, the Honolulu Council Navy League president. “This golf tournament was just another avenue for us to do that.

“Since there’s not a Marine Corps League, we’ve decided to put more emphasis on supporting the Marines here,” said the retired Navy commander.

This is the second year for the golf tournament and the Navy League has been supporting the sea services since 1957.
