U.S. MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP H.M. SMITH, Hawaii --

Marine military policemen standing post here were given a scare as a tree branch more than 20 feet in length, and as big around as a basketball rim, fell on top of the main gate guard post around 11 p.m. July 28.

Vehicles were redirected to an alternate gate for three hours until the branch was removed by Navy Facilities, because the branch obstructed both lanes of traffic. The MPs were unharmed and structural damage was limited to a broken stop sign and minimal damage to the guard post.
